“Hello, my name is Paco Olivas. I just turned 50 a couple of weeks ago and I am in the best shape of my life. But this was not always the case.

In 2010, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I underwent surgery to remove approximately 13″ of my colon and after recovery from surgery, I did approximately 6 months of chemo.

I recovered completely and I thank GOD for this second opportunity in life. In 2013, I was going to have my 30th high school reunion. Every year in the mail I would get discount offers to join various gyms/health clubs in the area. I would always tell myself, “Paco you need to do it, sign up.” However, like most people, I would put it off. But in 2013, I made a change in my life, a DRASTIC change! I signed up at Fitness 19. Since it had been almost 30 years since I had lifted weights, I decided to get a trainer to show me how to use all of this newer fancy equipment and most importantly, how NOT to get hurt. In my college years, I hurt my right shoulder bench pressing too much weight and not using proper form. OUCH, I can still feel it in my shoulder to this date. I had also hurt my lower back at work so with my surgery and past injuries, I could not and would not risk added injuries which would then discourage my goals.

I was determined to make it work.

At Fitness 19, Luke Rangel was given the task to get me back into shape. I met Luke in late January 2013 and at first we started with 30-minute workouts, 3 times per week. Luke also developed a meal plan for me and explained the basic concepts of nutrition, training, and eating properly and eating frequently.

Quickly, both Luke and I realized that 30 minutes was not enough and we switched to 1-hour workouts, 3 times per week.

Luke and I started noticing results and I was slowly, but surely losing weight. Actually, I was losing FAT and gaining MUSCLE.

When I met Luke, I was just over 158 pounds and a good size 34 waist. I am 5′-6″ on a good day, and I was at 28% body fat.

By September 2013, I had lost over 20 pounds, I was down to 14% body fat, and I was a size 31-32! My cancer is all gone and my blood work is EXCELLENT and the doctors say I have the blood work of a teenager!

I thank Luke, for such amazing lessons he taught me, not only about nutrition and exercises, but most importantly about life and for his never ending support. Life is hard enough as it is on its own.
